I Hate Valentine’s Day

This is the common refrain I hear from all of my single friends, jilted friends, and friends currently going through divorces. Me, I can’t hate Valentine’s day because of last year. I had a great time last year and I will always remember that: I can have a good time on Valentine’s day. I also find it odd to hate holidays. Yeah, they can be pointless and annoying—especially if you have no one to celebrate with, but they are really enjoyable even if you have no reason to celebrate. They remind us that there is some good in the world, even if it is a little commercialized.

I see them as times of year to be the person that we want to be. Yes, Scrooged had it right in that way, but it’s also with things like V-day and New Year’s, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Mother’s and Father’s day. They’re days set aside for appreciating various aspects of our life. Yesterday was about love and it was about any kind of love. Hell, celebrate with your friends because, presumably, you do love them. You do have affection for the people in your life. That’s the big lesson from last year and even if I am technically still in love with Glornax-7 despite my exile, I at least hope she knows I still want to be in her life and do really care about her and would do anything to make her happy.

So yeah, don’t hate Valentine’s day next year and try not to let it be seen as a curse to personally make you feel awful because it’s not. And yes! I fell into the blahs as well, but something last night restored my faith a little and hopefully means something for the future…besides my brother proposing to his girlfriend. Yeah, that was the big news last night and watching the video, even I got choked up a little, but I did have my hope restored in other ways as well.

Anyway, sorry for the preach. Until next time.

  1. Valentines Day is yet another day of the week. While it may be about the raise of pricing for florists, and the weight I gain from over indulgence of chocolate going to my ass, it still marks a day of appreciation for not just those you are involved with sexually. It is a day where one can appreciate the love surrounding…be it friends or family, even your animals.
I wrote about this in my last post, give it a look! http://radiantwording.com/2015/02/15/love-insurance-not-included/
Loved this post. All the best!
